YL Male Voice Choir made a successful seven-concert tour last autumn, commemorating the legacy and diverse musical production of the choir’s founder, Pekka Juhani Hannikainen (1854-1924). Now we are bringing the same program back to Helsinki after the popular tour! Our Founder P. J. Hannikainen Concert will resound in Helsinki Cathedral on Friday, Kalevala Day, February 28th at 7 PM. Tickets are on sale!
The concert program includes not only P. J. Hannikainen’s compositions but also a wide selection of significant choral works. In addition to Hannikainen’s works, the concert will feature Yui Katada’s magnificent composition Te Mankai, the immensely popular Pohjois-Karjala, and many other delicacies!
“We will also be performing some of our founder P. J. Hannikainen’s forgotten songs during the concert. I have searched for and transcribed the sheet music from P. J. Hannikainen’s manuscript collection located in the National Library. Now other choirs can also perform more works from his extensive compositional output,” says YL Male Voice Choir’s Artistic Director Pasi Hyökki.
Warmly welcome to the concert! During our autumn tour, we found the areas in front of churches to be quite suitable photo locations, so we might continue this tradition in front of Helsinki Cathedral as well.
